1. WORKSHOP VENUE

1.1 Address

The 3rd International Workshop on "Enhancing Training Quality through Customer Service (QCS-3): Caring for Clients Before, During and After Training" will be held at Kuta Paradiso Hotel in Bali, Indonesia, from August 25-31, 2004. 1.2 Accommodation

3. BEFORE LEAVING YOUR COUNTRY

3.1 Flight Arrangements

Please arrange your return flight with destination to Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.

3.2 Accommodation and Airport Pickup Arrangements

Accommodation is available to participants from August 24-September 1, 2004. Please advise us if you wish to arrive earlier than August 24 or stay at the hotel after September 1.
Airport transfer service is available from August 24-September 1, 2004. Kindly inform the contact person at the University of Surabaya (Ubaya) of your flight arrival/departure details including the flight number, date and time of arrival/departure so that arrangements for airport transfers can be made.

3.3 Passport/Travel Documents and Visa Requirements

Foreign visitors to Bali must be in possession of valid passport/travel documents with a minimum validity of six months beyond the period of intended stay, confirmed return/onward tickets, sufficient fund to maintain themselves during their stay in Indonesia and visa (if applicable). 3.4 Health Regulations

Visitors arriving from Yellow Fever Endemic Zones, i.e. Africa or South America during the last 6 days are required to present International Health Certificate showing Yellow Fever Vaccination. For more information on the Health Regulations, i.e., the countries in the Yellow Fever Endemic Zones, please contact the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate nearest to you and/or Ms. Agnes Y. 4. UPON ARRIVAL AT NGURAH RAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

4.1 Disembarkation/Embarkation Forms

As a foreign visitor arriving in Indonesia, you are required to fill up your data in forms known as the Customs Declaration Form and the Disembarkation/Embarkation Form (D/E Form). The forms are issued free-of-charge and obtainable from all immigration checkpoints. If you are arriving by air, you can obtain the forms from the airline or on board your flight to Indonesia.

4.2 Immigration Counter

Passports, visas, Customs Declaration Form and the D/E Form are checked here. Upon the grant of immigration clearance, Customs Declaration Form and the D/E Form portion will be retained by the Immigration Officer. The other portion will be returned to you. An endorsement indicating the period that you are allowed to enter and stay in Indonesia is stamped on both portions of the D/E Form as well as on your passport. Please take note of the number of days of stay given in the Visit Pass in order not to overstay. It is a punishable offence to overstay in Indonesia beyond the number of days given.
When you leave Indonesia, the D/E Form portion will be retrieved from you. Airport tax levied on departing passengers for international travel is Rp 100,000 (Rp = Indonesian Rupiah) while for travel within Indonesia varies from one region to another with an average of Rp 15,000 for each departure.

If you encounter problems at the Immigration Counter, the first step to do is showing your QCS-3 Admission Letter to the Immigration Officer. If the problem still cannot be resolved, please call Ms. Agnes Y. Andriani Ong at (0815) 5338-8661 who will help you to settle the problem.

4.3 Baggage Claim

Complimentary trolleys are available close to the Baggage Reclaim Area.

4.4 Customs

Indonesian customs allow entry of a maximum of one liter of alcoholic beverage, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 grams of tobacco and a reasonable amount of perfume per adult. Goods obtained from overseas which exceed US$ 250 per person or US$ 1,000 per family are subject to import duty. Cars, photographic equipment, typewriters, video and tape recorders must be declared upon entry, and must be re-exported. TV sets, radios, narcotics, drugs, fire arms, weapons, ammunition, laser guns, explosives, pornography, printed matters in Chinese characters, Chinese medicines, transceivers and cordless telephones are prohibited from entry. Films, pre-recorded video tapes, video laser discs or records must be submitted for censorship by the Film Censor Board. Animal, fish and plant include animals, fish and plant products must have quarantine permits. There is no restriction on import or export of foreign currencies. However, the export or import of Indonesian currency exceeding Rp 5,000,000 is prohibited. Dangerous items such as knives must be declared to customs. Indonesian has strict drug laws, and it is firmly recommended that illegal drugs of any amount or quantity should not be brought into or out of the country. It is also recommended that the use of illegal drugs be strictly avoided whilst in Indonesia.

4.5 Hotel Transport

After clearing customs, please proceed to the lobby area where you will be met by Ubaya representative who can be identified by a QCS-3 placard. He/she will arrange for your transportation to the hotel. If for some reason, the flight is delayed or the Ubaya representative cannot be located, you are advised to proceed to the taxi counter situated on the right of the International Arrival Hall or on the left of the Domestic Arrival Hall. Taxis at the Ngurah Rai International Airport operate on a voucher system by which fares between the airport and various destinations are fixed. The fare for an air-conditioned taxi from the airport to Kuta Paradiso Hotel, Kuta is Rp 20,000 (approximately US$ 2.50). A sign is posted at the taxi counter, listing the suggested price for a taxi journey to most of the islands popular tourist destinations. Look for the sign so you know how much to pay before boarding a taxi (non-metered taxi cabs require a negotiated price). You will be reimbursed by the organizing committee for the transfer-in-charges upon presentation of the coupon.

4.6 Currency and Banking

For foreign participants, it will be useful to have at least Rp 1,000,000 when you arrive in Indonesia so that you can cover incidental expenses during the weekend. The Indonesian Rupiah (Rp) is issued in notes from Rp 100 to Rp 100,000, and coins from Rp 25 to Rp 1,000. The prevailing exchange rate between US dollar and Indonesian Rupiah is US$ 1.00 to Rp 9,450 (as of June 25, 2004). As key entry/exit points, Ngurah Rai International Airport has several currency exchange facilities. Major credit cards are accepted in cities and large towns.

5. OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

5.1 Registration

Registration and distribution of kits will take place at the Secretariat (Arjuna Room), Kuta Paradiso Hotel, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2004. For participants who will be bringing their respective workshop fee payment to Bali, kindly present it upon registration on Tuesday, August 24, 2004.

5.2 Climate & Clothing

You can expect pleasant day temperatures between 20 to 33 degrees Celsius or 68 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Light clothing for outdoor wear is advisable. However, it is also advisable to bring a formal attire and/or national costume for some special functions, which will be arranged for the participants.

5.3 Electricity

Power supply is usually 220 volts, 50 hertz. Normal outlets are European style sockets, accepting plugs with two rounded pins.

5.4 Time

Standard Bali Time is 8 hours ahead of GMT and 16 hours ahead of United States Pacific Standard Time.

5.5 Tours/Cultural Orientation

A sightseeing tour of Bali Island will be arranged. More information on this trip will be announced separately when it becomes available.

5.6 Insurance

The workshop organizers are not providing participants (including resource persons) with any insurance coverage. Thus, participants and resource persons should be responsible for their own insurance coverage (i.e., travel accidents, medical, etc.). It is strongly recommended that participants make their own medical insurance arrangements before travelling to Bali, Indonesia. Participants should also bring their own personal medication used for minor sickness such as, cold, headaches, stomach indigestion, etc.

5.7 Religious Services Nearby the Workshop Venue

  • Al-Rahmat Mosque is located at Jl. Raya Kuta 75.
  • Al-Ikhlas Mosque is located at Jl. Baucau 7A, Tuban.
  • Al-Huda Mosque is located nearby Ngurah Rai Airport, at Jl. By Pass Tuban.
  • Catholic Mass is held every Sunday from 18:00 to 19:30 p.m. at St. Fransiscus Xaverius Church, Jl. Kartika Plaza 107, Tuban, Kuta.
  • Protestant/Interdenominational service is held every Sunday from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. at Protestant Bali Church Gang Menuh of Jl. Legian, Kuta.

7. THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN BALI

  • Batubulan, home to a number of stone carvers and famous for its excellent dance and theatrical performances.
  • The mountain resort of Bedugul well known for its golf course and Ulun Danu, a temple which seems to rise out of the lake. It is also famous for its water sports.
  • Pura Besakih, has built for over a thousand years and is known as the Mother Temple of Bali, the biggest and holiest of all Balinese temples.
  • Celuk, famous for its silver and gold jewelry works.
  • Goa Gajah, a cave temple believed to be built as a monastery.
  • Goa Lawah, where thousands of bats make the roof of the cave their homes. Its entrances are guarded by a temple believed to be found by a sage nine centuries ago.
  • The villages of Kintamani and Penelokan, give a view of the active Mount Batur and its lake where boats can be rented to cross over to Trunyan, an ancient village in Bali inhabited by people who call themselves “Bali Aga” or old Bali.
  • Klungkung, the oldest Javanese Hindu Kingdom in Bali.
  • Kuta, the tourist mecca of Bali famous for its sunset, shops of all varieties and its nightlife.
  • Nusa Dua, famous for its most beautiful and luxurious hotels in Bali.
  • Sangeh, the sacred monkey forest. Make sure you protect your handbags, etc as the monkeys will steal them.
  • Tampak Siring, the temple and its two bathing places which the spring water has curative powers. Regular purification ceremonies take place here.
  • Tanah Lot, one of Bali's most important sea temples, built on top of a huge rock, surrounded by the sea.
  • Ubud, the art center of Bali, famous for its collection of Balinese paintings. There are two excellent museums, Puri Lukisan and Neka Museum. It also famous for its scenery of rice fields.
