Prof.
Dr. Hamdan Suhaimi was born in Batu Gajah, Perak, Malysia in 1961. He received
his Ph.D., in Chemistry from the University of Missouri, USA. He was first
appointed as a Tutor at the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science and
Environmental Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1985. Two years
later he was appointed as a Lecturer. In 1993 he was promoted to the position
of Associate Professor and was appointed as a Professor in 1999.Currently, Prof. Suhaimi is the Director of the Center for Quality Assurance, University College of Science and Technology Malaysia (KUSTEM). In addition, he is also the Vice-Chairman of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry, Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Ultra Scientist of Physical Sciences in India and Board of Editors of the Malaysian Journal of Analytical Sciences
His area of research is in physical/surfactant chemistry. He was awarded an IRPA grant of RM 460,000 to lead a team of researchers on oleochemicals and its potential in cosmetic and toiletries preparations. Up to now, he has authored and co-authored more than 200 research articles in journals and seminars.
He is the recipient of various awards namely: National Young Scientist Award 1996 from Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, Malaysia; Young Scientist Lectureship Award 1996 from the Center for Science and Technology of the Nonaligned and Developing Countries based in New Delhi, India; Lever Brother Award 1998/1999 - Outstanding Research in Surfactants and Detergents from American Oil Chemist's Society, USA; Best Graduate Student Project Award 2000 - Outstanding PhD Project from American Oil Chemist's Society, USA; Research Award 1996 and 2000 from UPM; Excellence Service Award 1995, 1996 and 1998 from UPM.
